Orthodontics

At Grubaugh Orthodontics, quality orthodontic care is important to us. We're proud to produce beautifully aligned smiles for patients of all ages in DeWitt, Lansing, and the surrounding communities of East Lansing, Grand Ledge, Watertown, Bath, Haslett, and beyond.

Dr. Ed Grubaugh grew up in the Lansing area. He majored in Chemistry at Michigan State University. After earning his Bachelors’ degree in only three years, he was accepted in the University of Michigan’s School of Dentistry, where he would go on to graduate at the top of his class. He earned his Master of Science in Oral Biology while specializing in orthodontics at The Ohio State University.

Dr. Grubaugh is a diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics (Only one-third of all orthodontists are board certified). His research interests include digital orthodontic imaging and how technology can make orthodontic treatment more efficient.

A leading orthodontic journal recently published some of his research. In addition to his full-time practice, Dr. Grubaugh teaches at The Ohio State University’s Department of Orthodontics as a Clinical Assistant Professor.

Lansing Braces

When it comes to straightening teeth, traditional braces are one of the most efficient tools we have. Metal or ceramic brackets are attached to the teeth, then connected by wires and tiny rubber bands or elastics. Through regular adjustments with Dr. Grubaugh, these components apply gentle pressure that will gradually move the teeth into the desired positions.

Lansing braces are an excellent choice for correcting oral issues that range from simple to complex. Because they sometimes work faster at closing gaps and aligning teeth than other options might, overall treatment time may be slightly reduced. In addition, braces don’t require some of the more complicated technology or expensive equipment that newer treatments can, making them a cost-effective option for patients on a budget.

Lansing Invisalign

Instead of brackets and bands, the Invisalign system uses a series of clear, removable aligners to gradually move the teeth into alignment. These aligners are very popular with our teen and adult patients, and Invisalign is currently the top alternative to traditional braces.

Invisalign aligners are made of a comfortable plastic material that is virtually invisible. The trays are designed to fit snugly over the patient’s teeth, and are generally switched out every 1-2 weeks for the next in the series. This keeps teeth moving in the right direction. Aligners must be worn 20-22 hours per day throughout treatment in order for them to do their job. Neglecting to wear the aligners as directed can have a negative impact on the end results and also add time to the orthodontic process.

Invisalign tends to be most effective when used to correct many of the most common orthodontic issues. For certain complex cases, Invisalign may not be a viable option. A consultation with Grubaugh Orthodontics will be able to help determine your eligibility for Invisalign.

We have been at Grubaugh for a year and a half now, and they have been amazing! Brought both of my twins there to be evaluated. One of them needed braces with a herbst appliance. The other will need braces down the road, but not yet. I really appreciate their honesty in not doing things that aren't actually necessary! With the trivia questions, guessing games with prizes, and the coins they can earn towards gift cards, Dr. Grubaugh and his team really make going to the orthodontist something to look forward to! We even got to enjoy a private showing of Wicked 2 in the theater this past fall for their patient appreciation weekend! Will be bringing my other kids here for sure. And I even wound up coming here myself for Invisalign and have had a great experience myself!
